Breastfeeding Week: The Mass Latch On 2015

Breastfeeding week

On 1st of August, more than 100 nursing mothers from different walks of life came together for a meaningful mass latch on at United Square Shopping Centre! This is the first synchronised breastfeeding event in a retail mall co-organised by PIGEON Singapore and KK Women’s and Children’s Hospital (KKH) to celebrate World Breastfeeding Week, and Singapore’s 50th birthday.

World Breastfeeding Week is an annual event organised by WABA (World Alliance for Breastfeeding Action) in more than 120 countries in an effort to raise awareness on the benefits of breastfeeding.

Globally, breastfeeding in the public is still seen as a social taboo. Much of it arises from the exposure of the mother’s breast. PIGEON proudly champions breastfeeding and hopes this significant public event will encourage more mothers to breastfeed by reducing their reluctance to do so in the public. These mothers who participated in this event with their spouse, strongly believe that breastmilk is good for their baby. By coming to this event, it helps to create the awareness that Breastfeeding is the way to go!

“I just think that it’s your child. If you want to breastfeed your baby, you will keep on latching and just don’t care what people think about it. As long as you think breastfeeding is good for your baby, just do it!”

– Mummy Jean Hon, first-time Mum –

“I think this is a very meaningful event where many breastfeeding mums come together and we encourage and support each other, for our breastfeeding journey.”

– Mummy Geraldine, Mum of 3 kids –

While advocating the importance of breastfeeding and its benefits, PIGEON also recognises the challenges that many mummies go through as they try to balance work and family life. Committed to caring for the needs of both mother and infant, PIGEON’s latest range of breast pumps are crafted based on up-to-date research findings on the best design to help mothers to continue breastfeeding. These new features will allow mothers to breastfeed even more comfortably and conveniently, while providing nature’s nutrition during a busy workday.
